Why Mauritius
The densest collection of championship golf anywhere.
The greens are quick year-round, the fairways play firm, and the lagoon is in sight from almost every hole. This is golf of a quality worth travelling far for — and here everything sits within an hour or so of everything else.
From Europe you travel via Dubai, with one change and a couple of hours of time difference — no jet lag to speak of, and you are there the day after you leave.
The courses are designed by some of the biggest names in golf: Ernie Els built Anahita between mountain and lagoon, Bernhard Langer laid a course on its own island you reach by boat with the clubs in the bow, and Peter Matkovich drew two — one around a nineteenth-century château, another out of the dunes as the Indian Ocean's first true links. Mauritius sits in the south-western Indian Ocean and has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. December–April is warmest and most humid, with short but heavy showers rather than sustained rain — golf continues between them. Mauritius is about 65 kilometres from north to south. No course is more than an hour or so from another, which is the entire reason a trip here can hold nine rounds without feeling like a bus tour. Click a course to read more about it.
Excursions
